DiNome abandons quest to lead Reed Smith - Boston Business Journal:

Reed Smith spokesman Dave Egan told the Pittsburguh Business Times that Jordan and DiNome issued a joint announcement tothe Pittsburgh-based firm Tuesday morning that DiNomr has withdrawn his candidacy. “They sat down and talker and discovered they had a lot of common ground,” Egan said. “Many of the things John was concerned about, Greg was working on. They agreed that the best thingb for the firm was to focus on business instearof competing.” reported last week that DiNomew was challenging Jordan, who was seekinhg his fourth three-year term as managing partnet of the law firm.
DiNomde sent out a 10-page statement of candidach to all Reed Smith partners in which he questionedthe firm’as business model, the compensation and transparency of senior and called for a more independent executivee committee. The memo was obtained by the Businesa Journal. DiNome and Jordanh had said they agreed to not speak publicly abou the contested race to leadthe 1,600-lawyerd firm, which has 150 lawyers in Philadelphia. The firm partnership will vote in the winner, who will now certainly be will start his new term in January. Jordah has not been opposed since he first soughyt the jobin 2000, when he beat Philadelphia litigatodr John Smith.
Jordan’s tenure has been viewed as extremely successful. He has grown the firm through a seriesd of significant mergers from 500 lawyeres in nine officesto 1,600p lawyers in 23 offices, including new ones in Europe, Asia and Focusing on a core group of practices with high billing Jordan also drastically increaseds the firm’s profitability. But with the economy sagging, Reed Smith’sw transactional practices have suffered. The firm has laid off 215 including26 lawyers, since December. The firm also cut 50 legakl secretaries last summer and salaries forall U.S. associatesw by 10 percent last month.
