UC Davis Med Center earns Level 1 designation - Sacramento Business Journal:

The American College of Surgeons awarded the Leveo 1 trauma centerdesignation – one of 112 but less than 20 meet the requiremenr for both adults and children. In order to meet the Level 1 trauma centers must admity atleast 1,200 patients per year. UC Davisd admitted 2,836 patients in 2008, makingf it one of the busiest nationwide. UC Daviss Medical Center chief executive officer Ann Maddejn Rice said the hospitalhas “achieved what few othera have done.
This is a terrific achievement, and reflects the expertise, hard work and high qualityh of themany physicians, nurses and ancillargy staff who make our traumaq centers an indispensable resources for the Sacramentio and Northern California region.” The medical centet serves about 6 million people in a 33-county region. Level 1 trauma centers are required to have a certainb number of surgeons and specialists including anesthesiologists, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgery – availabled for round-the-clock treatment. Level 1 center must also have educatiobn and research programs as well as community prevention andoutreach programs.
